The First Review - Gourmet 9 Restaurant, Hotel Turqoise Chandigarh

It's the blog's first review and nothing came to mind else than the elite tasting site ,Gourmet 9 Restaurant situated inside Hotel Turqoise, Chandigarh.

Before directly jumping on to the alluring food, we would like to talk about the appearance and appeal of the Restaurant.*The wooden floor cranks*

Beautiful! is the first adjective that comes to your mind when you enter the premises, the modernly designed interior with artistic figures all around to catch your attention and wooden flooring tapping with your every step into this awesome place. Cleanliness and interior decor are of high standards and very comforting. See images of the restaurant here.

The Food

So, I am Virinder, hello to all readers!
It was a casual walk around as I got down from the bus at Tribune Chownk, Chandigarh, when I noticed this classy looking building called Turqoise, held by it's charm I decided to pay a visit and get my taste buds to work.

I was nicely greeted inside and helped to a neat table and chair. The Menu around here is vast, mostly filled with traditional and rich dishes that we don't get too often to even hear about. Rolling eyes over and flipping a few pages, I ordered myself Vegetable Dum Biryani.

Not the original picture of the Biryani served at the restaraunt, forgot to take a selfie with it :p
Cuisine    :Indian and Arabic
Category : Veg Main Course

Biryani is traditional rice meal containing a vast variety of herbs, spices and fresh vegetables (meat in the non veg variation). It is usually prepared by mixing rice with a stew of all the above mentioned ingredients and cooked all together, however 'Dum Biryani' is a bit different as it's prepared by keeping the uncooked ingredients in a small vessel which are slowly oven cooked over several hours. The pot is sealed so that the ingredients are cooked in their own juices, creating a stand-apart flavor which cannot be achieved otherwise.
Gourmet 9's Dum Biryani is unsealed as served. The fresh emanating steam that has been cooking it from inside takes you by surprise. An intense aroma. The rice used is 2 cm long high end Basmati along with chopped fresh veggies and semi cooked spices. You can feel the crisp of these spices when they release their strong flavor in your mouth. The Biryani has ginger-ish domination along with Tomato-Onion puree stew. The ingredients speak quality and the preparation speaks skill. Fresh Coriander leaves however were not used, which added to its authenticity as they would have been burnt in this method of preparation. If I am too describe the overall taste, I would say it was strong and does complete justice to your tongue if you really seek out strong taste in food. The combination of a complete variety of spices nicely appreciating the premium quality of rice. It is served along with Raita (Spiced vegetable fresh curd blend ) which makes up for the dryness of Biryani and compliments the strong flavor in your mouth. This way, Biryani only becomes more enjoyable.

This wraps up the first visit to Gourmet 9, as I was alone I could only try one dish at a time, more visits coming soon with more lucrative food.
